Morocco

At the end of January, I spent a few days exploring Morocco.  The bustling streets of Marrakech were reminiscent of a tidier, more approachable New Delhi- mixed with a bit of Spanish architecture and European fashion. The people spoke greetings of Arabic and French, and the couscous was delicious. I headed south-east from the city towards Algeria to get a taste of the Sahara Desert.  There, I met a few people who had grown up Berber nomads, but now work in the tourist industry. When I asked Mohammad, one of our guides, if he liked tourists he said this, "Yes, I like tourists. We show them the desert and they help us with languages." Mohammad speaks Berber Arabic, French, Spanish, Italian, and English. All fluently, I might add.
